A normal interval might be every two to three years to help prevent dirt, grime and mold from getting embedded and ruining the finish.
Aluminum, stucco, natural painted or stained wood can also benefit from cleaning. Removal of dirt and mildew will rejuvinate the surface. If you are thinking of painting or re-staining, you should have your house washed first. Why trap all that dirt in the new finish?
